A blog about special neighbourhoods, local atmosphere and stellar coffee.

Hello.

Countries + Coffees is a blog about special neighbourhoods, local atmosphere and stellar coffee. It is a tapestry of places that hold that special magic for us, and a platform to be creative and inspire others to explore with a curious, open and local mindset.

Countries + Coffees embraces the concept of slow travel; for us it means appreciating a place in a slow, meaningful way doing those things that bring us joy and calm whilst exploring. It often includes visiting neighbourhoods away from the main central hubs, pedestrian-friendly options, and immersing ourselves in the environment. It’s about not doing things just to ‘tick things off’ or count the destinations we have visited.

Slow travel for us also means taking long languid breaks to enjoy tasty bites and well made coffees. And just as coffee shops are pillars of many communities, they are pillars of many of our travels; a way to appreciate a soothing cup of coffee whilst watching neighbourhood idiosyncrasies and soaking up the local atmosphere.

I am a Nordic soul and feel serene in nature. But I get invigorated and inspired by big cities, their urban energy, food scene and multitude of people. And so Countries + Coffees mainly concentrates on cities, but the blog will be sprinkled with some calm open spaces, memories of beach breaks and road trips down winding roads. I’m also a big advocate of hotel breaks with unhurried breakfasts to revitalise and enliven the routine, and I will share some of my favourite hotels here. I hope that you get inspired by some of the destinations I have loved and admired. Equally, if you know great neighbourhoods, excellent spots to get caffeinated or ways to enjoy a place in a simple, authentic and mindful way, send me a message. Would be lovely to hear from you.
